Death

What does it feel like to go to sleep and never wake up? Do you feel any agony? Do you feel your mind and soul departing your body? Once you're in heaven does god let you see your family on earth? Do you have a home just like your old one? With all the things that matter to you most? Do miss things? Do you feel a pang of guilt about things? What is it like to die?

A Ghost

Where are you? Are you here somewhere? Are you there? Will you always be with me? Will you protect me? Will you lead? Will you be my light when I am in the dark? Will you kee me from drowning? Please! oh! Please stay with me!

A Death Poem

Why am I so cold?
Why can't I move?
Why is everything black?
Why is it so dark?
Why is there no light?
Why is there so much pain?
Why can't I breath?
Why is my heart not beating?
Why can't I feel my bed beneath me?
Why can't I hear a sound?
Why is there no hope for me?
Why didn't I take care of myself?
Why didn't I stay in touch?
Why didn't I care for my pets?
Why?
Why?
Why didn't I?

I wrote this in honor of my Silly Uncle Paul. May he be in no misery.

The Patriot

How accurate is the movie the Patriot? The goal of any movie is to entertain the audience to draw more and more people to increase profits. In order to make the most of any movie, the director may enhance scenes and bend facts. In the case of The Patriot, there are scenes that are accurate. However many parts of the movie were "enhanced." For example in order to save the son Gabriel from the British and possible execution, The Patriot uses two of his sons to help him ambush the British and free his son. The movies shows these young boys having the ability to use a musket, which in reality would be too heavy for them to handle. In another part of the movie, there was a battle between the regulars and the American army. The type of cannon used was totally wrong. They were using 32 pound cannons, which were not used in battle because they were too heavy. These are both examples of how a director stretches the truth in order to make a more interesting movie(Anonymous).

Untitled

Painted By Cy Twombly
A young painter tried to draw a man. He started with the shoulders, then the head and finally the nose and mouth. But when he stepped back to look at his work, he was horrified. The shoulders were not even , the head was too big. But he liked the nose and mouth. So he erased, and tried again. But still his painting was not perfect. Try, try, try again that was his mado. And so he did just that, until he could work no longer. When the art collector came to see his new art work. All he saw a was two rectangles. "What is this" asked the art collector, "It looks like nothing." "It is a mystery, I don't know what happened to it." Said the painter. "Well then I will take it." said the collector. And that is why Untitled catches your attention because its a mystery.

To Be

To be or not to be. To be a fish. To be a stream. To be water. To be free.
Some don’t know what to be. Others know what to be. Some just choice not to be.

Gravity, Inertia, and Cats

New research has changed the way we think about how cats drink. Using new high speed camera technology, the research revealed that cats use only the tip of their tongue to drink. It also showed that cats use a gecko–like process to lick up their milk. The video showed the cat used the tip of their tongue to create suction. The cat then retracts it’s tongue quickly off the surface of the milk. This action draws the milk up in a column that the tongue then quickly catches.

The way a cat drinks is a natural example of inertia and gravity in action. The tongue’s shape creates an air pocket. The air pocket applies pressure to the milk’s surface. By withdrawing the tongue quickly, the pressure on the milk’s surface is rapidly reduced. The sudden reversal of pressure sends the milk up in a cylinder. Inertia has been applied to the milk. The cylinder of milk is only there for a moment before gravity surpasses the inertia. The cat then swings its tongue through the milk cylinder and into its mouth.

My Declaration of Independence

I, Paige Alexandria Mertens, find it necessary to declare my independence from my sister, Madelyn Carol Mertens. While we are part of a family, and will remain family, I find it time for each of us to be our own person.

As the only two sisters in the Mertens family, many people confuse us. I am declaring my independence for the following reasons:

As the first born, I got the looks first. Therefore I shall be the blond, and Maddie can be a brunette or redhead.

Furthermore, I will continue to have first option for all new clothes styles.

Be it sports, we shall each have our own area of expertise. I hereby claim that in soccer, I am the defender. For basketball Maddie can be the rebounder. (She
did get the height after all. I'm willing to let her keep it!).

When it comes time to drive, I shall be the one to drive the sensible, yet safe
SUV. Maddie can get the first speeding ticket.

Since there are so many colleges to choose from, we shall each choose our own college and major. Visiting each other at school is permitted.

As far as boyfriends are concerned, neither own of us shall have one until we are 21 years of age (so says my Father). But I want one at 16!!!!

The following grievances that I have with my sister shall no longer occur:

There shall no longer be entry into my room for the purposes of taking my things.

All chores and clean up shall be equally shared between the sisters.

From this day forward we shall each have equal time in the bathroom.

Each sister shall have equal time with Mother and Father.

From today on I am an independent person from my sister. My parents will no longer confuse the two of use. No one will accidently call me Maddie. I am Paige Alexandria Mertens, and proud of it. (I will however trade clothes for the perfect outfit each day.)

Story of the Hour

Do you ever dream about marrying someone for love? Starting a family? Will back in the 1820's women didn't marry for love. They married so that they had a home, food, clothes, and protection. Guardian

A guardian, aged with wisdom.
A child, a young free soul.
An autumn, a swirl of colors.
A dress, pretty and bright.
A jacket, dull and worn.
To work, is what we all have to do
To play, is what we all want to do.

Identity

Your identity is the most important part of you. Without it we would all be the same. We would have the same likes and dislikes. Our identity is what makes us unique in our own way.
When I was younger I went through a difficult time with friendships. I didn’t know where I fit in. I would connect with someone, and then they would move away. Then I had to make a new friendship. Because of this I always felt lost and unsure of myself. Most times I would sit by myself during lunch. I worked hard to find people like me, who would like me. It wasn’t until the beginning of 7th grade that I finally felt like I belonged. I found not one, but several friends. They like me for who I am. I feel fine right where I am, and I hope that my friends don’t have to feel like they have to change themselves when they are around me.
During this time in my life, I did wonder what I could do to make friends and be popular. I remember asking m aunt to take me shopping, so I could buy “cool” clothes. When I got home, I was amazed at the money spent just to buy a sweatshirt. It didn’t make me feel any better, and it didn’t get me a new friend.
Friends are very big part of your identity. They are like you in many ways, and they know who you really are. If you every lose yourself, they can get you back on track. Your friends can help you solve problems, and you can do the same thing for them.
Friendship is all about making each other feel good about themselves, and to support one another when the times are tough. Don’t every let someone tell you not good enough to be their friend, because you are good enough! If they can’t see that then it their loss. Just be yourself and you will find people who like you just the way you are. Those people are your true friends. The ones you can trust to help you in good times, or tough situations.
I believe I learned a very important lesson early in life. Know who you are, and be yourself at all times. Your identity is who you are, and who you want to be. Don’t let anyone else change you, and don’t change for someone. You are special in your own way and that’s the way it should be.
