Story of the Hour

Do you ever dream about marrying someone for love? Starting a family? Will back in the 1820's women didn't marry for love. They married so that they had a home, food, clothes, and protection. "The Story of an Hour" is about a women who believed her husband to be dead. In this story symbolize is everywhere, and the story is also a tragedy. But the main symbol is the stair. The stairs represent the main character's rise to power but is also the main character's tragic flaw. The women rises to power when she believes that her husband is dead. When she is up stairs she sits by the upstairs window, which is open. The window represents an open door or a new way of life. With her husband supitly is dead all his money, and his house would go to her. But her flaw is when she cames down the stairs ready to have a happy life without her husband. She believed her husband was dead but that was proven wrong when he walked into the house. Because of this she can never have the life she wants because her husband isn't dead. She dies at the end of the story because all the happiness she was feeling was taken away from her by her husband and that was too much for her troubled heart.
