Secrets

Do you have something or know something you don’t want anyone ever knowing or seeing? Or, has one of your friends or family told you something that they trust you not to tell anyone else? Those things are called secrets. They are a secret for a reason; they’re not to be talked about to anyone or shown to anyone. If you let that secret out, it can hurt you, your friends, and the ones you love.
When it comes to secrets my mom always says, “Big or small, you keep them all.” The reason to why this phrase is true because even if the secrets seems small to you it may be big to the person who trusted you to keep that secret. They could also be testing to see if they can trust you. In Shiver By Maggie Stiefvater, Sam trusts Grace with his biggest secret: he’s a werewolf. If Grace was to tell someone and they believed her, Sam would be taken in for testing. He would probably never be seen again. While Grace is battling to protect Sam, other wolfs start causing problems.
Secrets can also bring people closer together. After a while Sam and Grace started to date because of Grace knowing Sam’s secrets. They became very close: “I touched my lips to hers again, and this time, it was a very different sort of kiss. It was six years’ worth of kissing, her lips coming to life under mine, tasting of orange and of desire.” That quote shows how much Sam loves Grace with his mind, body, and soul. But he must be careful because as secrets can bring people together they can tear them apart forever.
With Sam’s life hanging on his secrets, Grace knows to keep them to herself even if it means lying to her friends and family. Unknown to Sam or Grace there are other secrets that are about to pop... secrets that could destroy friendships permanently.
