Falsely Accused

Steve Harmon is not guilty to the supposed charges that he was the look out in a robbery that ended with a bang. In the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers, Steve Harmon is accused of being the look out in a robbery that ended with a man being killed. There is no cold, hard, factual evidence that Steve participated in the robbery. The state's main witness, Mrs. Henry, never said in her testimony that she had seen Steve in or around the drugstore at the time of the robbery. "(She points to KING) The gentleman sitting at the table was one of the men arguing (164)." The state also brought in known criminals for its other witnesses, Osvaldo Cruz, and "Bobo" Evans. All we know is that they have lied before and may also be lying again to save themselves. Both said that Steve was the look out in the robbery. Although during his testimony Bobo stated that he never even talked to Steve, nor was he sure that Steve was ever paid for his supposed services. It makes no sense to do a possible dangerous service and not get an award such as getting paid; therefore Steve had no motive to be the look out in the robbery.
